Do Neuropathy Supplements Work? A Trial-by-Trial Read
Do neuropathy supplements work? The best-studied case is alpha lipoic acid at 600 mg a day, given mostly by vein for 3 weeks to people with diabetes. Results for pills are less clear. B12 matters only when a shortfall is the cause. Most nerve blends have no trial of their own.

The best-studied case
What do the trials of alpha lipoic acid show?
The trials of alpha lipoic acid show a result for a set dose given by vein. A review of four trials with 1,258 people who had diabetic nerve damage used 600 mg a day for 3 weeks (Ziegler 2004, ALA meta-analysis).
A later review said it is unclear whether pill doses above 600 mg a day matter in practice (Mijnhout 2012, ALA meta-analysis). That review also noted more serious side effects on alpha lipoic acid than placebo in one four-year trial (Mijnhout 2012, ALA meta-analysis). The Ziegler trials were found through a drug company's database, which is worth knowing when you weigh them.
Doses on one scale
How do study doses compare with a capsule label?
Study doses are set and large, while a capsule label may print no amount at all. The bars put a few reference amounts on one scale. The dashed bar is the amount Flow Nerves does not print.
Vitamin B12
Does B12 matter for neuropathy?
B12 matters when low B12 is the cause. NIH says a B12 shortfall can bring numbness and tingling in the hands and feet (NIH ODS, Vitamin B12). A blood test tells you; guessing does not.
| Question | Answer from the sources |
|---|---|
| Is B12 in Flow Nerves? | No, it is not among the six names |
| Can low B12 cause tingling? | Yes, per NIH (NIH ODS, Vitamin B12) |
| Who checks it? | A doctor, with a test |
The gaps
What do the studies not tell us?
The studies do not tell us what a six-name blend does. They tested one ingredient, at one dose, in one group of people.
No study of Flow Nerves exists in our sources, and the label prints no milligram. Ask a doctor first if you take diabetes medicine, since alpha lipoic acid may add to it (MSK, Alpha-lipoic acid).
FAQ
Flow Nerves questions people ask
Does alpha lipoic acid work for neuropathy?
It has been studied, mostly in diabetes and by vein, with mixed and limited results. NCCIH says there are no clear conclusions (NCCIH, Diabetes and supplements). Ask your doctor before taking it.
Do neuropathy supplements work in pill form?
It is unclear. A review said pill doses above 600 mg a day have unclear clinical value (Mijnhout 2012, ALA meta-analysis). Capsule amounts differ by product.
Do I need B12 for neuropathy?
Only if you are low. A shortfall can cause numbness and tingling (NIH ODS, Vitamin B12). A doctor can test your level.
Are neuropathy supplement trials large?
Most we read were small or short, and used different doses and groups (NCCIH, Diabetes and supplements). That limits what they can show.
Is Flow Nerves backed by a trial?
No. We found no trial of Flow Nerves. The label says NERVE SUPPORT* and prints no milligram for its six names.
