Coenzyme Q10 (Ubiquinone) in Flow Nerves: Evidence and Cautions
Coenzyme Q10, or CoQ10, is a compound your body makes in every cell. Flow Nerves lists it as ubiquinone, with no milligram amount printed. MSK mentions one 2022 placebo-controlled trial of CoQ10 as an add-on in painful diabetic neuropathy, and calls other nerve evidence preliminary. Mayo Clinic says it might make warfarin work less well.

The basics
What is coenzyme Q10?
Coenzyme Q10, also called CoQ10, is a compound that your body makes in every cell. It is the sixth name on the Flow Nerves list, and the brief writes it as ubiquinone.
Ubiquinone is one form of CoQ10. Ubiquinol is another form that is also sold. The seller says CoQ10 is "Essential for cellular energy production and antioxidant defense". We found no study of Flow Nerves that tests this wording.
MSK notes that statins, a type of cholesterol medicine, may lower the level of CoQ10 in the body (MSK, Coenzyme Q10). That is a fact about those drugs. It does not show that a capsule is needed.
| Name on the list | Coenzyme Q10 (Ubiquinone) |
|---|---|
| What it is | A compound the body makes in every cell; sold as ubiquinone or ubiquinol |
| Form | Ubiquinone is the form named; the amount is not printed |
| Printed amount | Not printed in the material we have. No Supplement Facts image was supplied and the sales page prints no milligram for this name. |
| Amount used in research | No study dose is set beside the label: no amount is printed |
| How the label compares | The label prints no amount, so it cannot be set next to any trial |
| Strength of evidence | MSK mentions a 2022 placebo-controlled trial of CoQ10 as an add-on for painful diabetic neuropathy; other evidence for nerves is preliminary |
| Marketed or traditional use | Sold as 'essential for cellular energy production and antioxidant defense' |
| Main caution | Mayo Clinic says it might make warfarin work less well. NCI says it may change how the body uses warfarin and insulin, and that blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar medicines may decrease its effects. Pregnancy safety is not settled. |

The evidence
Does CoQ10 help nerves?
The nerve evidence for CoQ10 is preliminary. MSK mentions one 2022 placebo-controlled trial of CoQ10 as an add-on for painful diabetic neuropathy, and says supplementation may reduce pain in that condition (MSK, Coenzyme Q10).
That is one trial, in people with diabetes, using a product and dose we cannot match to Flow Nerves. Add-on means the people were also getting their usual care. It does not say that CoQ10 on its own would do the same, and it says nothing about people without diabetes.
Mayo Clinic says CoQ10 causes few side effects when taken as directed (Mayo Clinic, Coenzyme Q10). Numbness and tingling still have many causes. Mayo Clinic's neuropathy page says to seek medical care right away for tingling, weakness or pain in the hands or feet (Mayo Clinic, Peripheral neuropathy).
The numbers
How much CoQ10 is in Flow Nerves?
The material we have does not say how much coenzyme Q10 is in one Flow Nerves capsule. No Supplement Facts image was supplied, and the seller calls the six names a "proprietary blend".
No study dose sits beside the label either, because none of the pages we cite gives a dose for the nerve trial. That is why there is no dose bar for CoQ10 here. The table shows the whole picture for this one name.
| Item | Status |
|---|---|
| Amount per capsule | Not printed |
| Form | Ubiquinone (brief); ubiquinol is a different form |
| Study dose in our sources | None given |
| Trial of Flow Nerves | None found |
A fair question for the seller is: how many milligrams of ubiquinone are in one capsule? A U.S. blend panel lists the blend's total weight (21 CFR 101.36, Supplement Facts labels), and we have not seen one. See the formula page.
Side effects
What are the side effects of CoQ10?
CoQ10 side effects are usually mild. Mayo Clinic lists upper stomach pain, loss of appetite, nausea and diarrhea, and also dizziness, sleep problems, tiredness, headaches, rash and irritability (Mayo Clinic, Coenzyme Q10).
The same page says the safety of CoQ10 in pregnancy and breastfeeding is not settled, and that it should not be used then without a professional's approval. Flow Nerves is for adults 18 and older.
Call 911 right away. For other serious reactions, report them to FDA through MedWatch (FDA, MedWatch).
Medicine check
Does CoQ10 interact with warfarin and other medicines?
Yes. Mayo Clinic says CoQ10 might make the blood thinner warfarin work less well, which could raise the risk of a clot (Mayo Clinic, Coenzyme Q10). Ask your doctor or pharmacist before you start if you take warfarin.
NCI says CoQ10 may change how the body uses warfarin and insulin. It also says drugs used to lower cholesterol, blood pressure or blood sugar may decrease the effects of CoQ10 (NCI, Coenzyme Q10). MSK says CoQ10 is similar in structure to vitamin K, delays the clearing of theophylline, and may reduce the effect of chemotherapy and radiation (MSK, Coenzyme Q10).
| If you take | What a source says |
|---|---|
| Warfarin | CoQ10 might make it work less well (Mayo Clinic). |
| Insulin | CoQ10 may change how the body uses it (NCI). |
| Blood pressure, cholesterol or blood sugar medicine | These may decrease the effects of CoQ10 (NCI). |
| Chemotherapy or radiation | CoQ10 may reduce the effect (MSK). |
| Theophylline | CoQ10 delays its clearance (MSK). |
The Medicine Switchboard maps all six names to the medicines they touch. Keep taking prescribed medicine, and never stop it because of a supplement.
Who should ask first
Who should ask a doctor first?
Ask a doctor or pharmacist before CoQ10 if you take warfarin or insulin, have a cancer treatment ahead, are pregnant or nursing, or are under 18.
The same goes for anyone on blood pressure, cholesterol or diabetes medicine, and for anyone with surgery soon. NCCIH says to tell your providers about every supplement well before surgery (NCCIH, Using supplements wisely).
If you have new numbness or tingling, see a doctor before any supplement. Our guide on when to see a doctor lists the warning signs.
